Muscle groups

Are you training every muscle group enough?

A hard set is a working set taken close to failure (about four reps in reserve or fewer). SimuFit counts them per muscle group: the primary muscle gets a full set, a secondary muscle half a set.

Behind each bar is a recommended range, for example 10–20 sets a week for a muscle-building goal. You see right away if your back lags behind your chest.

Questions and answers

What is a hard set?

A hard set is a working set taken to within about four reps of failure or closer. Warm-up sets are not counted. The number of hard sets is one of the best predictors of muscle growth.

How is estimated 1RM calculated?

SimuFit uses the Epley formula: weight × (1 + reps / 30). For example, 100 kg × 5 reps gives about 117 kg. It is an estimate, not a test – but excellent for following a trend.

Where does the recommended set range come from?

The range is based on research on training volume and muscle growth. For a muscle-building goal, about 10–20 hard sets per muscle group per week is a good starting point. Read more in our guide.
